Typhoon Lupit hits Ulithi, Fais, Woleai

Typhoon Lupit hit the islands of Yap state from 23-25 November, 2003. The typhoon track is shown by the dotted line. Ulithi Atoll sustained significant damage to its water supply and food crops as a direct result of the typhoon. Potable water was widely contaminated with salt brought by storm surge during the typhoon. Strong winds and storm surge affected the production of crops such as taro, breadfruit, bananas, coconuts and other tuberous crops, on which the islanders depend as a major source of food.
